Operation Drunk Driving

(Batu Pahat, 20th) The Batu Pahat Traffic Police Department carried out the “Operation Drunk Driving” (Op Mabuk), resulting in the arrest of 3 men for drunk driving.

The Batu Pahat Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Unit posted on Facebook yesterday, stating that the unit had set up roadblocks on Jalan Chan Sow Lin in Batu Pahat the previous night, inspecting passing vehicles to identify drivers under the influence of alcohol.

During this enforcement operation, the 3 men arrested for drunk driving were charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amendment 2020). Their blood alcohol content exceeded the legal limit of 50 milligrams per 100 milliliters.

Additionally, law enforcement officers issued 11 traffic violation summonses (Pol 257) for various offenses during this operation.

The police remind the public not to attempt drunk driving. If arrested under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amendment 2020) for drunk driving, individuals could face a maximum fine of RM 30,000, imprisonment for up to two years, and a maximum suspension of their driving license for two years.

WHAT IS SECTION 45A (1) ?

Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 states that a person who drives a motor vehicle on a road without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for another persons using the road shall be guilty of an offence. The punishment for this offence is a fine of not less than four thousand ringgit and not more than ten thousand ringgit, and imprisonment for a term not exceeding twelve months 1.
